John R. Kouris is the Executive Director of DRI, where he has served since April 1998. Among his many responsibilities, John oversees a staff of 45, who are divided into six operational departments. John is also the Secretary-Treasurer of the National Foundation for Judicial Excellence, which conducts judicial education for the nation's state appellate and supreme court judges. Prior to coming to DRI, John served as the Chief Operating Officer of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA). He is a former trial lawyer having practiced law in Northwest, Indiana. As his avocation, John has been a football official for the Big Ten Conference since 1990. Among his accomplishments were two national championships and 14 bowl games. He is a trainer at clinics for aspiring officials and speaks frequently on officiating-related topics. He is a graduate of the Loyola University School of Law, Chicago, IL, J.D. and Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI.
